What Goes Into Your Premium

We can't quote a price until we learn a little about you. Every health insurance premium comes down to a handful of factors, and they are the reason two people on the same block can pay very different amounts.

Once we've talked, you'll see actual premiums for each plan you qualify for, side by side. It costs nothing, and you're under no obligation to sign up.

Your age and tobacco use
The older you are, the higher the premium. Tobacco users can also be charged more, which is why we ask about it right away.
Income and premium tax credits
For ACA Marketplace plans, what you expect to earn this year and your family size decide whether you get a premium tax credit. For a lot of our clients, nothing affects the price more. An income estimate that is a little off can mean paying some of the credit back when you file, so we go over it closely.
Metal tier and deductible
Bronze plans cost less each month and carry bigger deductibles. Gold plans do the opposite. Which one suits you depends on how often you go to the doctor and how much you could handle if a big bill showed up.
Type of network
With an HMO you usually need a referral to see a specialist, and out-of-network care isn't covered. A PPO lets you go straight to a specialist and may cover part of an out-of-network bill. An EPO falls between the two. Wider networks generally mean a higher monthly cost.
Who the plan covers
Adding a spouse or kids changes what you pay. In some cases, splitting family members across two plans comes out cheaper, and we'll point it out when that happens.

Coverage We Help You Compare

Most people come to us with one of two problems. They have no coverage and need it, or they have a plan that costs too much or does not cover the care they use. We handle individual health insurance, family health insurance and ACA Marketplace plans. We also set up dental insurance, vision insurance and accident insurance, on their own or alongside a health plan.

    Individual Health Insurance

Coverage for one person, picked after we look at your doctors, your medications and what you can really spend each month.

  • Parents and their young daughter sit at a wooden meeting table as an agent points with a pen to a printed plan summary, with a calculator and clipboard nearby.

    Family Health Insurance

One plan for parents and kids, picked after we look at how your family actually uses care, with options from several carriers compared side by side.

  • Agent in a checked shirt points at a monitor showing three plan options and an estimated savings panel while a client with long hair watches at an office desk

    ACA Marketplace Plans

We get your income estimate and doctor list right first, then compare Marketplace plans so your tax credit and network fit from day one.

  • Agent in a plaid blazer points a pen at a dental plan brochure with a coverage tier table while a client holds it at a wooden consultation desk

    Dental Insurance

We sort out what dental work you are likely to need, then show you plans whose waiting periods, limits and dentist networks fit it.

  • Client in a denim jacket holds a plan summary sheet while an agent in black points to it with a pen across a wooden office desk with a plant and pen cup

    Vision Insurance

Vision plans for routine eye exams, frames, lenses and contacts, matched to how often you actually use them and which eye doctor you want to keep.

  • Over-the-shoulder view of an agent in a polka-dot shirt pointing a pen at a benefits sheet on a clipboard while a client looks on at a wooden meeting table

    Accident Insurance

A plan that pays you a set cash amount after a covered injury, so a fall or a broken bone doesn't leave you stuck with a big deductible.

Why People Call Us First

Coverage only pays off when it matches how you get care. That's why the questions come before the quotes. Here's what that looks like.

  1. 01

    Questions come before plans

Who are the doctors you want to stay with? What do you fill at the pharmacy each month? Is there a surgery ahead, a baby due, a child getting braces? Your answers sort the plans worth a look from the ones that would cost you down the road.

  2. 02

Plans from several carriers, lined up

You see each plan's premium, deductible, out-of-pocket max and network together on one view. The choice is yours. We don't push any one company.

  3. 03

    Free to you

The consultation carries no fee. We're paid by the carrier behind the plan you choose, so our help never shows up as a bill to you.

  4. 04

    Network first, price second

A low premium won't help if your doctor isn't in the network. Before you sign up, we check your providers and each plan's drug list, so there are no surprises about what you're buying.

  5. 05

    Meet however works for you

Stop by the office, or meet with us by phone or video. Many clients get through the entire process without leaving their job for the day.

About Private Health Insurance Seffner

We are a small local office that helps people pick health coverage. That is all we do. Health, dental, vision and accident plans for individuals and families.

Our view is simple. Most bad plan choices come from skipping the questions. Someone grabs the lowest premium, then finds out their doctor is not in network or their deductible is more than they can cover. We would rather spend twenty extra minutes asking than have you stuck with the wrong plan for a year.

Florida summers bring more outdoor time and more scrapes, sprains and dental surprises. Whatever comes up, we want your coverage to already fit it.

Where We Work

Our office is in Seffner, and we help clients across eastern Hillsborough County. That includes Brandon, Valrico, Dover, Mango, Thonotosassa and Plant City, plus Temple Terrace, East Lake-Orient Park, Palm River-Clair Mel and Bloomingdale.

Questions We Hear Often

Something not covered here? (813) 592-4474

Is there a fee for working with you?

No. Going over plans with us costs nothing. The carrier you pick pays us, and your premium is the same as it would be if you enrolled on your own.

When am I allowed to sign up for a health plan?

Marketplace open enrollment comes once a year, starting in early November and usually wrapping up around mid-January. At other times, a change such as losing other coverage, a new baby, marriage or a move opens a special enrollment period. Most run about 60 days, so reach out soon after it happens.

Could I be turned down for a pre-existing condition?

Not on ACA-compliant health plans. They can't deny you or charge more because of a health condition. Other plan types have their own rules, and we'll make clear which is which.

Will my doctor be in the plan?

That depends on the network of each plan. We look up your doctors and check the drug list on every plan we show you before you enroll. If something is missing, you'll hear it from us.

Is there help with the monthly premium?

For many people, yes. A premium tax credit depends on this year's expected income and your family size. We go through the figures with you and show what the credit would do to your monthly cost.

Are dental and vision part of health insurance?

For adults, usually not. Dental insurance and vision insurance are normally their own plans. Many dental plans have a waiting period before bigger work like crowns is covered, so getting one early makes sense.

What does accident insurance do?

It pays you cash after a covered injury, like a broken arm or an ER visit. You can use it for your deductible or any other bill. It doesn't replace a health plan, and we'll say so if it's not right for you.

How a Consultation Works

Most people are done in one or two conversations. Here is what to expect.

  1. 1

    Give us a call

Let us know what changed. Maybe coverage from work stopped, you're about to turn 26, you moved, or your deductible keeps blocking care. We'll book a time at the office, on the phone or over video.

  2. 2

We talk through what you need

Keep your doctors' names, a list of your medicines and a ballpark income number nearby. We'll ask about any care you expect and what you can spend each month. This is the most important step.

  3. 3

    We weigh the plans together

We show you plans from several carriers and explain the trade-offs plainly. Ask anything you like, as many times as you like.

  4. 4

You sign up, and we're still a call away

We go through the application with you over the phone and make sure each detail is correct. If a claim gets confusing or something in your life changes later in the year, call us and we'll dig into it.
